NASA/JPL Eyes on the Solar System

Travel through time & space

Blink provided creative direction and user experience design for the new Eyes on the Solar System Application. This included a redesign of the existing interface as well as  design of a storytelling presentation mode (scrolly-telling). Blink also offered creative direction for the motion/animation to create a more cinematic experience without compromising any technical detail or scientific accuracy.

NASA’s goal was to update the tool to be easier to use and more discoverable. This allowed us to reshape the user experience for a new and broader audience.

The goal for the motion and animation was to make it as cinematic as possible without losing any of the technical or scientific accuracy. all the planets and spacecraft are exactly positioned in both space and time. Our amazing Director of Innovation, Quba Michalski, who modeled and animated these simulations also had to omit things like the use of particle systems because the technology in the NASA’s real-time 3D web engine isn’t capable yet.
