I have worked on dozens of envisioning projects for Amazon. One of my favorites was around the future of shopping. Shopping without the “checkout ritual”. We designed a variety of shopping solutions and associated authentication flows for: A high-end brick and mortar store, a grocery store, a future vending machine, car in-dash (think paying for parking), Fire TV, an Alexa device and more. For example imagine ordering and paying for a pizza using your friends Alexa.

Microsoft Chronozoom
I have worked on dozens of projects for Microsoft over the last 25 years. My favorite by far was a project for Microsoft Research called “Chronozoom” or “Big Time”. It was an interactive timeline of 14.7 billion years. We were working primarily on education scenarios. Imagine being able to visualize the earth starting at the Big Bang. Users can easily navigate from the big bang to the industrial revolution.
From Microsoft Research: “Today a new, interdisciplinary field called Big History is unifying the study of all of the past, bringing together the history of Cosmos, Earth, Life, and Humanity into a single grand panorama of time. Geology and paleontology sit squarely in the middle of this panorama, and the teaching of Big History offers remarkable opportunities to those with a broad view of the past.”

Designing a future smart experience for long haul truckers
Lots of field research at truck stops. It was fascinating research and design.
The research & Design focused on Onboarding & registration, parking & reservations, refueling (both 18 wheel and 4 wheel), loyalty & rewards program.
This project also involved building a full-scale fuel pump constructed from foam core and an ipad that we could test in the lab.
